DESCRIPTION:
Popular house plant, evergreen, with lace-shaped leaves up to 30 inches
long that are bright pink to the deepest burgundy, green and cream.
It produces panicles of scented, small flowers in summer followed by
red berries.
Long, green and deep pink leaves offer a lush and tropical look. Great focal
point in landscape or large containers. Try planting with contrasting foliage
plants or bright flowering annuals. Perennial in frost-free climates; treat as
an annual elsewhere. Easily grown in organic, fertile, moist, well drained
soils in full sun to part shade.
Plants need bright indirect light, but tolerate light shade. Avoid direct sun.
Needs consistently moist soils from spring to fall. Does not require winter
dormancy, but appreciates a resting period with reduced watering from
fall to late winter.
Consider growing in humidified rooms, place pot on a bed of wet pebbles
or grow in bathrooms. Regular temperatures in summer and minimum
65F in winter.
